Finished secondary education with secondary school-leaving exam.

The Czech educational system is regulated by the Higher Education Act (Act 111/1998). Studies at VSB-TUO are regulated by the Statute of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava.
Profile of the Branch
(in full-time mode of study only) This course prepares the student to find employment in the paramedical profession of a Biomedical Technician in accordance with Act no. 96/2004 Coll. The graduate will be entitled to perform the paramedical profession within the meaning of the valid laws concerning the so-called regulated professions in health service. The education of workers performing paramedical professions is governed by relevant laws, especially Act no. 96/2004 Coll., Act no. 18/2004 Coll., Regulation of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic (MHCR) 39/2005 Coll., and Regulation of the MHCR 401/2006.

Knowledge:
The graduate will acquire knowledge in the medical sphere, such as in anatomy, physiology and pathology, ethics of medical professions, organization and management of medical care, and in technical subjects, such as processing signals and images, medical apparatuses, in computer science and cybernetics and in elementary electrotechnical subjects. As regards the vast area of biomedical engineering, the graduate’s knowledge is focused on biomedical sensors, diagnostic, therapeutic and laboratory medical apparatuses, and medical apparatus complexes. The student acquires elementary knowledge in areas related to the operation of medical facilities, which is required for his/her practical activity in medical operations. With respect to the professional specialization of the course, the graduate possesses - a broad knowledge and understanding of the subject and extent of the given branch - an elementary knowledge of the theory, concepts and methods of the branch - an elementary understanding of the possibilities, conditions and limitations of applying the theory, concepts and methods of the branch in practice
Skills:
The graduates can - deal with practical problems in the branch on the basis of a generally defined task using their professional knowledge - search for, sort out and interpret relevant information to solve a defined practical problem - apply some of the elementary research procedures of the branch in the division necessary to solve practical problems of the branch
General competencies:
The graduate is educated in order to be able to - make independent and responsible decisions in less-well-known contexts on the basis of a general assignment - coordinate the operation of a team on the basis of a general assignment and defined sources, and to bear responsibility for the results - consider the ethical aspects of the given problem - communicate to both experts and laymen the information about the nature of technical problems and his/her own opinion concerning the solutions in a comprehensible and convincing way
Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples
Within the scope of their professional competence, a medical worker without professional supervision and without indication: a) provides medical care in accordance with legal regulations and standards, b) follows the rules of the sanitary and epidemiologic regime in accordance with special legal regulations, c) keeps medical documentation and other documentation ensuing from special legal regulations, works with the information system of a healthcare facility, d) provides information to patients in compliance with his/her professional competence, or as the case may be, the physician’s instructions, e) takes part in the practical education in the branches of study designed to provide professional competence to perform medical professions, as organized by secondary schools and higher technical colleges, in accredited medical study programmes designed to provide competence to perform a medical profession, as organized by the universities in the Czech Republic, and in educational programmes of accredited qualification courses, f) participates in the preparation of standards. The graduate of this branch will find employment in all branches related to the operation of medical technology at healthcare facilities, to the implementation of modern medical documentation, and in medical applications that use information technology, and at companies engaged in the manufacture, service and sale of medical apparatus.

Course block: Compulsory - all courses are compulsory.
Course block: Choice-compulsory - student has to choose at least one course from the list of courses.
Course block: Optional - student can choose any course from the list of courses.
 
IMPORTANT: Student has to select so many courses to reach 30 ECTS credits per semester. Rules in detail and convenient selection of courses can be consulted with the programmme director.
Bellow stated courses are assigned for the degree studies only. Students coming to VSB-TUO for an exchange stay must select courses from the List of courses for exchange students.
