Summary
Subject increases basic knowledge of microprocessor technics. It deals with excellent knowledge of modern microcomputer control systems and design problems of each parts of microcomputer systems for applications in industrial electronics.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
The main aim of this subject is acquisition of theoretical knowledges and practical experiences in area of microprocessor control systems, their design and application. Acquired piece of knowledge is a part of electrical engineers knowledges, that is interested in application of modern microprocessor systems in electric drives.
Course Contents
Lectures:
Requirements for microprocessor control systems (MCS), block diagram of single processor and multiprocessor system, description of basic blocks.
Sensors of quantities - current, voltage, speed, and position sensors.
Analog signal and its adjustment - amplifiers, limiters, analog memories and analog multiplexers.
Hardware solution of the microcomputer with different types of microprocessors, practical examples.
Digital processing of input signals. A/D converters, D/A converters and their practical solutions, block diagrams, circuit diagrams.
Standards for the representation of numbers - fractional format.
Digital processing of output signals from incremental position encoder. Block of position and speed estimation, estimation of rotation direction, multiplying of pulses, counter of pulses. Block and circuit diagrams.
Output signals processing.
Development resources for design of application software. Assembly of program modules, mutual relations.
Implementation of program blocks for vector-controlled AC drive with induction motor (IM). Principle of vector control with IM. Design of speed control structure.
Implementation of software blocks for speed control structure with IM. Reading of A/D data. P, I, PI controllers. Current control. Speed control. Block of oriented quantities calculation. Sine and space vector pulse width modulation (PWM).
Digital signal processors. Transputers. Structure, properties, applications.
Programmable logic controllers. Structure, programming languages. Basic applications in industrial electronics.

Laboratory exercises:
Summary of single-chip microcomputer control systems.
Editing and processing of input digital signals using MCS.
Working with analog signals and their processing in MCS. Generation and analysis of AC and DC signals.
Test No.1. – Hardware for MCS.
SW blocks for regulated drives, multiphase signal processing.
Basic types of digital controllers - measurement of transient characteristics.
Verification of discrete control on a simple control structure.
Test No. 2. – Application SW for MCS.

Projects:
Semester project - hardware and software design for microcomputer control system (14 hours).
Laboratory reports (14 hours).
