Summary
Develop student's knowledge of electronic publishing into marketable skills. Learn the basics with this hands-on introduction to electronic page layout, digital imagery, and file preparation for print (books, magazines, newsletters) and the Web. You receive instruction and work in LaTeX, and other industry-standard publishing software. Topics include font management, HTML programming, digital photo retouching, illustration, basic animation, and logo design. Principles of visual communication are emphasized, but no background in art or design is necessary. Prerequisite: Basic computer skills.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
Practicable rate of non-trivial electronic document in LaTeX. Master the fundamentals of typography and digital photography basics rules for electronic publishing.
Course Contents
Lectures:

The document life cycle. Logical and visual structure of a document.

Markup languages, their formal grammars, Document Type Definition and document validation.

Basics of computer typesetting and typography.

Fonts backgroung. Document layout preparation for printed and electronic versions.

Practical typesetting in LaTeX.

Principles of digital images, raster and vector graphics, lossless compression methods.

Digital photography images and their manufacturing.

Semantics of documents and documents conversions.

Forms and database text generation.

Electronics documents and security.

Electronics documents for presentations, their editing and presentations.

Storage of documents, digital libraries, Adobe Portable Document Format.
