Summary
The subject is focused on basic concepts of dosimetry, dosimetric quantities and their measurement and calculations with an emphasis on practical issues in radiation protection.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
To get knowledge of basic dosimetric quantities and methods of their determination.
Course Contents
1. Radiation field, fluence.
2. Basic dosimetric quantities.
3. Biological effects of ionizing radiation.
4. Intrinsic contamination, ingestion and inhalation.
5. Aims and basic principles of radiation protection.
6. Radiation monitors and personal dosimeters.
7. Execursion to a personal dosimetry service laboratory.
8. Diagnostic and therapeutic irradiation.
9. Radon in buildings.
10. Irradiation from natural sources (building materials, water).
11. Practical dosimetric measurements.
12. Dosimetric calculations.
