Summary
Students obtain the theoretical information and practical experience with construction and results interpretation of basic statistical and graphic tools for quality management (histograms,control sheets, flow charts,Pareto charts, Ishikawa diagram, scatter plots, basic control charts).
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
Students will:
- undestand statistical base of following methods;
- know preconditions for their application;
- be able to apply in practice following statistical and graphical methods and interpret obtained results for management and improvement of processes.

- Ishikawa diagram
- Scatter plot
- SPC methods
- Flow chart
- Check sheets

Course Contents
1. Meaning of statistical methods for quality management. Quality characteristics and random variables.
2. Fundamentals of mathematical statistics and theory of probability (repetition).
3. Analysis of the process variation. Common and assignable causes of the process variation. Explanation of the therms „Statistically stable process“, „Capable process“, their relationships.
4. Basic description and examples of application of SQC methods.
5. Check sheets. Flow charts (theory, interpretation, application).
6. Histograms (theory, interpretation, application).
7. Scatter plots (theory, interpretation, application). Basics of regression and correlation analysis.
8. Fishbone diagram. Brainstorming.
9. Pareto analysis.
10. Basics of statistical process control (SPC). Shewhart control charts.
11. Variables SPC.
12. Attributes SPC.
13. Basics of acceptance sampling. Sampling plans. Operating characteristics curve.
14. ISO standards for SPC and acceptance sampling.
