Summary |
---|
The course Application of microorganisms in biotechnology summarizes possibilities of utilization of microorganisms in traditional biotechnology. It deals with fermentation techniques (bioreactors, culture conditions), defines and describes microorganisms with industrial use. It also provides comprehensive information on the application of a particular species of microorganism in industry (e.g. food, pharmaceutical, wood processing, etc.), while does not forget about environmental protection (wastewater treatment, bioremediation). |
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit |
---|
To introduce the use of microorganisms in traditional biotechnologies, to draw attention to ubiquitous occurrence of microorganisms as a result of their application in various industrial processes and to understand their importance in waste treatment. Students will acquire broad fundamental knowledge about the use of microorganisms in industrial processes and in protecting the environment. |
