Summary
Subject objectiv is application of the fundamentals of engineering mechanics, materials and manufacturing to the analysis, calculation and design of machine elements and mechanisms such as threaded fasteners (screws, bolts), joining components such as keys, pins, rivets, welds, adhesives, tapered rings (Federrings), press-fit connections, direct cone connection, further power transmission components such as power motion screws, various type of gears, especially spur gear train, gearing, belts, chains, shafts, splined and serrated shafts, and radial and thrust rolling bearings
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
1. Loading of machine parts (statically, dynamically).
2. Basic properties of materials. Permissible load.
3. Connecting and moving screws, division. Pitch angle, self-locking.
4. Connecting screws - calculation, choice of material.
5. Connecting screws - tightening torque, efficiency, normalization.
6. Shaft and hub connections - division and use.
7. Shaped joints - grooved, polygonal.
8. Power connections - pressed and clamped connections. Basic calculations.
9. Welded, riveted and glued joints. Basic calculations of statically difficult welded joints.
10. Pins, axes, shafts. Static calculation of shafts.
11 Rolling and plain bearings. Basic calculation. Bearing, lubrication and sealing.
12. Distribution of transfers. Calculation of chain and belt transmission.
13. Gear transmissions - spur gears, their basic dimensions. Involuntary.
14. Correction of gears, slips, efficiency, force. Basics of design calculation of gears.
