Summary
Mathematics is essential part of education on technical universities.
It should be considered rather the method in the study of technical
courses than a goal. Thus the goal of mathematics is train logical
reasoning than mere list of mathematical notions, algorithms and
methods.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
The set of real numbers, operations with algebraic expressions, equations and
inequalities, functions, exponential and logarithmic equations, trigonometric
functions and equations, analytic geometry, arithmetic and geometric sequences.
Course Contents
1. Numeracy. Computation wit rational and irrational numbers, intervals, operations on intervals (intersection, union, complement), absolute value of real numbers.
2-3. Polynomials and rational expressions, computation with powers and roots. Simplification of the expressions.
4-5. Linear and quadratic equations and inequalities.
6. Exponentiation with integer, whole and rational powers. Power and exponential functions.
7. Introduction to logarithms.
8. Trigonometry, sine, cosine and tangent functions as ratios between edges of a right triangle, definition by means of the unit circle. Oriented angles, their measures in degrees and radians.
9. Algebraic expressions containing elementary functions.
10. Sequences, their limits and sums. Arithmetic and geometric sequences.
11-12. Analytic geometry in a geometric plane: coordinates of a point and vector, line (equation and graph), metric properties in the plane.
13. The conic sections, their properties, and equations.
