Summary
The course Human Performance and Limitations II follows the course Human Performance and Limitations I, its purpose is to go more in depth in the field of human physiology and psychology in connection with the medical qualifications of licensed aviation personnel. In this course, students will get acquainted with modern tools to increase the reliability of the human factor for both individuals and work teams (crews) and will have the opportunity to try some situations leading to human factor failure and also possible tools to reduce the risk of these processes using simulation technologies.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
The aim of the course is to achieve in students the competencies needed for orientation in the issue of human performance and its limitations in the operation of aviation systems. Aviation systems are among the risk systems where even a small human factor failure can result in large loss of life, health or property, and the probability of a human factor failure today is much higher than a potential technology failure. Completion of this course is also part of the theoretical training to obtain the relevant aviation qualifications.
Course Contents
1. Qualification requirements for the air operator profession (pilot, ATC, cabin crew,…)
2. Medical fitness of air operators and its limitations
3. Limitations of the human sensory system in the aviation environment
4. The influence of health and hygiene on the reliability of the air operator
5. The process of information processing by the operator and its risks to the air traffic safety
6. The operator's decision-making process and its risks to the air safety
7. Personality, attitudes and risky behavior of the air operator
8. Overloading and underloading of Human Factors (HF) in the work process
9. Human errors in the work process - theory and models
10. Prevention and correction of HF errors in the work process
11. Multi-crew cooperation (MCC) training and its impact on the air traffic safety
12. Crew resource management (CRM) training and its impact on the air traffic safety
13. Risks of automation of the air operator working environment
14. Examples of possible HF failures in air traffic using simulation technologies
