Summary
The subject further forms the professional profile of the graduate who will
work as a designer, respectively as a production equipment operator
primarily (but not only) in the metallurgical industry for the production of steel as the most widespread construction material in engineering.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
Analysis, knowledge and understanding of the basic principles and construction of the chief processing machines and arrangement in metallurgy plants first of all for steel making as most widespread constructional material in mechanical engineering.
Course Contents
1. Steel as the most widespread construction material. Production plants and their links. Main features of a modern pig iron plant.
2. Material flow through the blast furnace plant. Machinery for agglomeration and sintering operation. Equipment for agglomerate cooling.
3. Design and cooling of blast furnace.
4. Blast furnace charging equipment - scheme and equipment.
5. Blast furnace gas cleaning equipment.
6. General layout of the plant for coke production.
7. Structure of coke oven battery, ground plan. Anchor node, doorframe lining.
8. Machinery for operating the coke oven battery.
9. Construction of oxygen converters and hearth furnaces.
10. Construction of electric furnaces.
11. Equipment for limiting the outflow of furnace slag into the ladle - types, principles for construction.
12. Equipment for melt homogenization - structural design. Design of equipment for heating of melt in ladle - ladle furnace.
13. Types and design of the device for vacuum melting in a ladle.
14. Arrangement, function and principle of operation of continuous steel casting equipment. Concept of equipment for casting thin strips.
