Summary
Students will get acquainted with the issues of nature and landscape protection, including cultural aspects of its development. They will get detailed information about the development of European landscape types, basic environmental and ecological problems, biodiversity, evolution and ecological succession. Attention will also be focused on the basic biological communities of the Czech landscape, rare, invasive and expansion species of plants and animals. Students will also gain an overview of the basic legal norms that affect the protection of nature and monuments and understand the complexity of the problems associated with nature protection and environmental issues. An essential part of the course are field work and exercises.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
a) understanding the importance of nature, landscape and monument protection
b) ability to apply knowledge from natural sciences (biology, ecology,and also geology, geomorphology, etc.) in nature and landscape protection
c) the ability to perceive the landscape as a natural and cultural phenomenon, to predict its development, to propose its management and use
Course Contents
1. Global environmental issues, historical context.
2. Concept nature conservation.
3. Legislative framework of the nature conservation in the Czech Republic.‎
4. International conventions, initiatives and programs in nature conservation.
5. International non-governmental nature conservation organizations.
6. Geodiversity and conservation.
7. Biodiversity and conservation.
8. Endangered ecosystems in the world and in the Czech Republic.
9. Introduction to conservation.
10. Development of protection of cultural monuments in the world and in the Czech Republic.
11. The state conservation, related legislation, the concept preservation of cultural monuments.
12. International conventions, institutions and organizations in the protection of monuments, the issue Cultural tourism.
13. Historic Parks and Gardens - the historical context in the world, Europe and Czech Republic.
