Summary
The course introduces the basics of metrology, detection methods and principles for
environmental monitoring. The main attention is paid to methods of monitoring
air, water, soil water and soil air systems for automation of measurement,
data acquisition and telemetry. Examples of monitoring systems are shown in
case studies.

Course Contents
1. Fundamentals of metrology and quality control monitoring.
2. Detection methods and principles. Optical and lectrochemical methods. Chromatographic methods and detectors. Methods of using ionizing radiation.
3. Apparatus and methods of organic geochemistry. Pyrolytic methods.
4. Biomonitoring - basic principles and methods. Examples.
5. Apparatus and methods for monitoring air emissions.
6. Apparatus and method for monitoring atmospheric deposition.
7. Apparatus and methods for monitoring surface waters.
8. Apparatus and methods for monitoring groundwater.
9. Apparatus and methods for monitoring soil water.
10. Apparatus and methods for monitoring soil gas.
11. Automation of measurement and data collection. Bus and interface.
12. Examples of implementation of automatic metering and telemetry.
13. Case studies of monitoring systems.
