Summary
The goal of the subject is to make students acquainted with the role of the
base of mineral raw materials in the Czech Republic and altogether in the
world, methods of exploitation of particular kinds of mineral raw materials
for the purposes of their utilisation. Furthermore, the subject is to provide
the basis of particular systems of underground and surface mining of deposits
of mineral raw materials in the processes of mining, disintegration, transport
and backfilling of worked out spaces and also in accompanying and auxiliary
processes ensuring deposit exploitation itself.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
The student will learn how to classify the basic types of organizational structures in the subject Basics of Mining and how to identify their strengths and weaknesses. The aim is to define and reproduce facts, to interpret acquired pieces of information in new situations and to compare them.

Subsequently, the students will learn how to analyse information, connect pieces of information, order information according to importance and use it in experiments and synthesis with a view to definite recommendations.

Syllabus of lectures:

1st The issue of underground mining and quarry production of raw materials.
2nd Basic concepts of mining deposits.
3rd Possible ways of opening and preparing deposits.
4th Methods of mining coal seams.
5th Methods of extraction and non-metallic ore deposits.
6th Transportation to the quarries and mines.
7th Dump and odvalové economy.
8th Eliminate the effects of mining activities, reclamation and rehabilitation of terrains.
