Summary
Algorithm – processor – computer. Hardware and software of personal computer. The development of operating systems – MS DOS, MS Windows. Computer networks – the Internet, World Wide Web. The creation documents in the text editor MS Word. Use of spreadsheets (MS Excel) for creation tables and graphs.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
This course is dedicated to fundamentals of operating systems, computer networks, creation of documents in the text editor and use of spreadsheets for creation of tables and graphs. These problems can arise from other courses as well as from practice.
Course Contents
1. Implementing an algorithm on a computer.
2. How a computer works -- the principle of a digital computer.
3. Personal computer hardware.
4. Personal computer software.
5. Operating Systems - MS DOS.
6. Operating Systems - MS Windows.
7. Local and remote computer networks. The Internet and its services, the World Wide Web.
8. Writing and processing texts in MS Word text editor – basic controls, working with files.
9. MS Word – working with blocks, formats.
10. MS Word – working with styles, tables, etc.
11. Creating tables and charts in MS Excel.
12. MS Excel - basic controls, writing data, formulas, working with files.
13. MS Excel– editing a table, working with blocks, formats.
14. MS Excel– Table Appearance, Charting.
