Summary
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
The subject introduces students to the process of technological transportation in the quarry and mining (underground) operations. The course aims at tackling the issues of technology and calculation for rail, belt, wheeled and shipping transport and other special modes of transporting raw materials, and for surface and underground deposit extractions.
Course Contents
1) Division of transport in mines and quarries, basic concepts and an introduction to the issue.
2) Influence of physico-mechanical properties of the extracted raw materials on their technological transportation.
3) The requirements of major mining processes on transport. The theory of force transmission by friction. Equation of motion.
4) The basic method for determining traction force. Traction elements used in transport. Vertical transport.
5) Belt conveyors, main parts. Rope-belt conveyor, scraper conveyor, chain conveyor, vibrating conveyor.
6) Transportation in the pipeline. Gravity transportation.
7) Rail transport – rail track, rolling stock.
8) Rope transport. Aerial ropeway. Suspension transport.
9) Special ground track.
10) Automobile transport.
11) Shipping transport, types, use, elevation, unloading.
12) Transportation using floating belt conveyors, schemes, applications.
13) Hydraulic and pneumatic transport, transport by gravity, chutes, troughs.
14) The combination and comparison of different types of transport systems. Traffic regulations.
15) Ecological and economic aspects of the use of technological transport in quarries and mines.
