Qualification Requirements:
Finished higher education in Bachelor's degree programme.
Regulations:
The Czech educational system is regulated by the Higher Education Act (Act 111/1998). Studies at VSB-TUO are regulated by the Statute of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava.
Profile of the Branch
The aim of the specialization Economics and Law in Business is to prepare qualified professionals, who will be able to provide legal and economic professional activities in context at the middle and higher management level. The study is focused and structured in the way to make the students be able to connect economic and law knowledge in practical and wide consequences and to prove successful in different key fields of company sphere such as manager, businessperson, economist, leader specialist with excellent supposition to be employed in international trade business.

Knowledge:
As for study content, gaining knowledge and understanding theories, concepts and methods in the fields as follows is: - financial law, capital market law, - tax law – both material and procedural, - intellectual property law, - insurance law of commercial insurance industry in business practice, - legal regulations adjusting a business, - EU law and internal business law, - international subjects doing business in the Czech Republic, - economic and financial management, - strategic planning and management.
Skills:
Professional skills - to be able to identify a factual, economic and legal status of the practical problem, - to analyze the problem and apply legal/economic solution including definitions of threats and opportunities, usage of such legal/economic tools reacting to those, - understanding the legal text and legal acting, - elaboration of legal acting, usage of corresponding legal terminology, - evaluation of resulting obligations and conclusion of practical recommendations in commitment law, - orientation in the field of international business transactions, - to analyze insurance plan, insurance contract and insurance conditions, - evaluation of offered insurance products as for their risks and feasibility, - elaboration of basic applications and submissions towards tax authorities, orientation in tax system, - providing complex analytical and conceptual activities in the field of consumer protection in the financial market, - orientation in personal data protection, - analyzing trade secret protection and know-how, - usage of strategic planning and management.
General competencies:
General graduate´s skills: - to transfer gained knowledge and skills for solving the practical tasks, - to organize and coordinate a team when solving a given task, - to identify a factual, economic and legal status of problem in practice, - to analyze a problem and apply a legal/economic solution to it including defining threats and opportunities, usage of such legal/economic tools reacting to them in the best way, - to understand legal texts and legal processes, to use suitable legal argumentation, - to identify problems out of managerial practice, - to extend the study skills and interest in the studied field taking a possible doctoral study into account.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples
The graduates of study specialization Economy and Law in Business will be generally prepared to work as independent professional – specialist, as manager at the middle and higher positions. Typical working positions: - economist in corporate sphere, non-profit organization and municipalities, - member of corporation body, authorized representative, - manager in the law or economic departments, - insolvency administrator, executor, auditor, tax advisor, insurance intermediary, - specialist in insurance industry, - customs agent, - internal auditor specialist, - specialist in regulation of financial market or specialist of state control in the financial market, - worker of financial and law departments of the state administration, - international trade manager , - entrepreneur.

Examination regulations, assesment and grading are described in the Study and Examination Rules.

Remark:
Course block: Compulsory - all courses are compulsory.
Course block: Choice-compulsory - student has to choose at least one course from the list of courses.
Course block: Optional - student can choose any course from the list of courses.
 
IMPORTANT: Student has to select so many courses to reach 30 ECTS credits per semester. Rules in detail and convenient selection of courses can be consulted with the programmme director.
Bellow stated courses are assigned for the degree studies only. Students coming to VSB-TUO for an exchange stay must select courses from the List of courses for exchange students.
