Summary
The course is devoted to deepening the knowledge acquired in bachelor's and master's studies in subjects focused on project and grant management on the issues of project management and grant management in a global international environment with a special focus on standards and techniques applied in project management in the European Union and the United States. The aim of the course is to acquaint students with different approaches to international project management based on relevant techniques, standards and project management methodologies.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
1. Describe the basic terminology of international project management
2. Clarify the basic principles and methods of project management in the global environment.
2. Describe the management phase of the international project.
3. To characterise the basic project management standards applied in the European Union and the US.
4. Explain the preparation and content of the essential documents for the preparation and implementation of international projects co-financed from public sources.
5. Interpret requirements for the structure of an international project in the context of management, communication and outsourcing.
Course Contents
1. Basic terminology of international project management - definition of basic concepts, international project, characteristics and determinants of a successful international project.
2. International projects in terms of organisational strategy and culture - strategy and strategic management, project portfolio management, the corporate culture of the project, cross-cultural leadership.
3. International Professional Project Management Organization - PMI, IPMA, EMA, AMA, AAMO, PACCIOS, SACIOS, NAMCO.
4. Project Management Institute (PMI) standards - PMBOK, OPM3, Project Manager Competency Development Framework.
5. Standards of the International Project Management Association (IPMA) - Individual Competence Baseline (ICB), Project Excellence Baseline (PEB), Organizational Competence Baseline (OCB).
6. National Standards of Selected World Economies - National Standards PRINCE2, APMBOK, BSI BS6079, PM KANON, JPMBOK.
7. Identification of the international project - project initiation, project purpose, project objectives and milestones, project scope, cultural framework, diversity and complexity of the international project.
8. International project planning - planning processes, cultural influences and impact on planning, time planning, resources and costs of the international project.
9. Implementation of the international project - objectives and outputs, cultural influences on outputs/results of the project, responsibility of organisational structures, specifics of responsibilities in the international project.
10. Monitoring and control of the international project - tools and techniques for monitoring and control, analysis of control results, change management.
11. Management of the international project - international project management structure, global project management, international project manager, project manager success factors, international project team.
12. Communication in an international project - intercultural cooperation, motivation, confidence building, conflict resolution, coaching in an international project.
13. Outsourcing in terms of international projects - definition of basic concepts, goals and needs definition, preparation of outsourcing, selection of external suppliers and creation of working relations, case study.
14. Preparation of the project within the international project - practical aspects of preparation, case study.
