Summary
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with basic professional information on the fundamental issues of world security, global development and trends in this area, global security issues, the role of the world actors and the state of the current international security environment. Attention will be paid to fundamental changes in security architecture during the second half of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century and their influence on Euro-Atlantic security structures, including the Czech Republic.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
1. To analyze key aspects of present world security and security policy processes.
2. Describe and evaluate the development of the security situation in the world.
3. Synthesize partial knowledge to create a coherent view.
4. Apply the acquired knowledge to assess the present security situation in the world economy, Europe and the Czech Republic.
Course Contents
1. Security, security policy, security policy actors - definition of key terminology.
2. War conflicts as an integral part of the development of the world economy, security issues until the end of the 19th century.
3. Security issues from the beginning of the 20th century to the end of the 1940s.
4.From US military superiority to strategic parity. NATO and the Warsaw Pact.
5. Security issues during the 1960s and 1970s, arms control negotiations.
6. Development of security situation in the 80s, end of the Cold War, development in the area of disarmament.
7. Current security situation in the world and global security problems.
8. Defense spending in the world economy, current trends in armament armament.
9.National actors in international security.
10.Regional conflicts, their development, present status. Asymmetric and Hybrid War.
11.NATO and European Union, development of relations, their role in contemporary security architecture.
12.The present situation and challenges in the EU's Common Security and Defense Policy.
13.Czech Republic in international security structures, security policy of the Czech Republic, external and internal security of our country.
14. Army of the Czech Republic - origin, development, structure, defense spending, equipment.
