Qualification Requirements:
Finished secondary education with secondary school-leaving exam.
The Czech educational system is regulated by the Higher Education Act (Act 111/1998). Studies at VSB-TUO are regulated by the Statute of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava.
Profile of the Programme
The aim of the study program Economics and Management is to educate professionals with a wider economic overview with a focus on management, economics and the law of both private and public entities. The curriculum provides theoretical and practical knowledge of the complex nature that is necessary for the managerial positions. The general economic background, including knowledge of economics, mathematics, statistics, economics, law, and management, is the foundation for creating the core competencies of future graduates. Further skills are developed in subjects of study specializations. The academic focus of the study program is accompanied by cooperation with the practice already during the study, through projects from a real corporate environment. The curriculum is designed so that students can apply the acquired knowledge immediately or develop them in a continuing master's degree. Degree program Economics and Management has four specializations: Business Administration, Management, Economics and Business Law, Sports Management.

The main aim of the study is to acquire knowledge in the following areas: - economics and financial management of different types of enterprises, - establishment, management and development of one's own business, - managerial methods and techniques, - business economics, - the organization of the business, - management and managerial skills, - legislation for economists, - logistics and quality management, - business analysis, - the legal and administrative principles for setting up a business, - the specifics of small and medium-sized enterprises, - consumer protection, - Human Resource Management, - Informatics and business information systems, - managerial accounting and tax issues, - production and service management, - management of a family business, - trade, business, labour, social and economic crime, - sports management and marketing, - the rights of both economic and unfair competition, - labour law and social security.

General competencies:
- application of acquired expertise and skills to practice, - gaining self-confidence (assertive presentation, logical reasoning, process evaluation, problem solving, independent decision making, coordination), - planning, supporting and managing the acquisition of the other expertise, skills and competencies of others and team members, - effective communication with different people and institutions, - independent solution of economic analyses, - comprehensible and convincing communication and presentation to experts and the wider public of their own expert opinions in at least one foreign language, - the ability to develop acquired knowledge and skills.

The study is focused and profiled especially with regard to the employability of graduates in different types of enterprises, both in terms of field of activity, ownership or legal form, in production and non-production sectors, in state administration or as founders and owners of the company, in the positions of the lower and middle managers level, specialists in specialized departments.
