After its reconstruction, Planetarium Ostrava opens to the public again!
The Planetarium will welcome its first visitors on 30th November 2014.

What news has Planetarium Ostrava prepared for public?

  • New glass foyer with models of rockets and space probes
  • Top-notch projection technology in the planetarium hall and cinema
  • Extensive exposure spaces in all hallways and in previously inaccessible areas of the building
  • Outdoor amphitheatre
  • Up to date telescope in the cupola of the observatory

The reconstruction of the Observatory and Planetarium of Johann Palisa, which is the official name of the Planetarium of Ostrava, started in December 2011. The overall reconstruction came to almost 150 million CZK, with a grant from the operational programme Research and Development for Innovations.

The Observatory and Planetarium of Johann Palisa was founded in 1980 and is part of VŠB - Technical University of Ostrava. It is the third largest in the Czech Republic and the only one in the Moravian-Silesian region.
