The base of the protective shield is made of a polymer, which is certified for contact with the skin and is suitable for health care, the headband is made of polyamide. The University’s 3D Printing Protolab cooperates on the project with the development workshop IdeaHUB of the Moravian-Silesian Innovation Centre Ostrava, which helps with cutting the shields with a laser beam. The daily production capacity of the 3D printers is around 255 shields.

"To meet the needs of the University Hospital, we have created a "3D printing farm" where we have 3D printers from several faculties. Currently we have 57 printers, operated by alternating shifts of technicians and PhD students, that will be running nonstop in order to produce as many pieces as possible”, says Prof. Kukutschová.
