The Central Library asked the Czech Standardization Agency for remote access to the ČSN online database – a portal for accessing the full texts of all Czech technical standards and technical standardization information. On the basis of a contract signed with the agency, it will be possible to use this service for free starting on Monday May 24th, 2021.
So far, this service has only been available through subscription in some public, university or other libraries. As for our university, the service has been accessible in study rooms in the main library building in Ostrava-Poruba and in library branches at the Faculty of Safety Engineering and Faculty of Civil Engineering.
Due to problematic access to standards through public or university libraries and study rooms during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Czech Standardization Agency, with the financial support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, enabled all technical universities to use the ČSN online database remotely from April 2021. It is a central solution for all technical universities so they can provide access to this database to all their students. Students, as well as teachers, will now be able to use this important source of information from home or elsewhere, using their own devices (no more than two). Standards cannot be printed, only viewed.
It is possible to log in to the ČSN online portal via Shibboleth using the VŠB-TUO Single Sign On system (personal number and LDAP password). It is necessary to read the service license and technical terms carefully. They contain installation instructions and rules that must be followed for smooth and trouble-free operation. Detailed information on the service, license, access and technical conditions can be found on the Central Library website.
