The Fraunhofer Innovation Platform FIP-AI@VSB-TUO has demonstrated strong ability to connect academia with industry and deliver projects with European impact. FIP is an example of how linking the academic environment with industry brings tangible results. These activities have not only scientific but also practical impact, which is crucial for the Region and our partners. I am pleased with the positive evaluation of the platform, which is unique in the Czech Republic. I am also delighted that cooperation is gradually expanding across the University,” said Igor Ivan, Rector of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava (VSB-TUO).

Current projects include, for example, NewHeatIntegrated, focused on flexible heat storage systems for buildings; Enhance Europe (Energy HArvestiNg CollEctors for Urban Road Pavement), which utilises the energy potential of urban roads; and ModularHeat4EU, aimed at modular latent heat storage for various applications.

These projects demonstrate that FIP-AI@VSB-TUO can effectively respond to current challenges in energy and sustainability. For the upcoming period, our goal is to strengthen cooperation with industry and deliver solutions that bring real value to our partners. The platform also contributes to developing international contacts and involving students in research. We intend to continue in this direction,” said Jan Platoš, Director of FIP-AI@VSB-TUO.

The Supervisory Group also highly appreciated the active participation of platform representatives in conferences, workshops, and networking events that strengthen collaboration between research institutions and industrial partners. One important way FIP-AI@VSB-TUO fosters networking and builds new connections is by organising professional events. On 18 March 2026, VSB-TUO will host the 3rd Czech-German Business Meeting, aimed at expanding partnerships and creating new opportunities for joint projects. Organisers expect strong company participation and inspiring discussions focused on cooperation not only between Czech and German entities.

In addition to recognising past achievements, the Supervisory Group provided valuable recommendations for further development. These included strengthening collaboration with industry through greater involvement of business developers to maximise the practical impact of projects, expanding international contacts, including links with other FIP platforms and organisations such as HySafe, engaging students in projects, and enhancing mobility opportunities, including internships at Fraunhofer institutes. Attention was also given to identifying practical applications of artificial intelligence that could deliver significant added value for industrial partners.

The meeting outcomes confirmed that FIP-AI@VSB-TUO is a dynamic platform with a significant impact on connecting research and industry. Thanks to high-quality projects, an active networking approach, and openness to new trends, the platform holds a solid position in the European innovation ecosystem,” added Platoš.
