This means that the university has the right to decide on its degree programmes, their scope and quantity. Institutional accreditation is granted by the National Accreditation Bureau for Higher Education for ten years.
VSB – Technical University of Ostrava has succeeded in ten areas of education. These are safety and economic fields, electrical engineering, power engineering, informatics, mathematics, construction, mechanical engineering, technology and materials, mining and processing of minerals, and earth sciences. The university has been accredited for these areas at all levels of study, Bachelor’s, follow-up Master’s and doctoral degrees, and is covered by all faculties of the university – Faculty of Mining and Geology, Faculty of Materials Science, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Faculty of Civil Engineering, and Faculty of Safety Engineering. “It has been certified for ten years that as a university, we can provide higher education in particular fields and degree programmes. It means greater independence for us, including the possibility to approve the offered degree programmes independently within the internal accreditation procedure,” says the university Rector Václav Snášel about the accreditation.
The university has the Council for Internal Evaluation, which is one of the self-governing academic bodies of VSB-TUO. Its principal activities include the approval of degree programmes within the framework of institutional accreditation or evaluation of the quality of education at the university.
