Summary
The course provides students with basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of statistical processing, analysis and interpretation of statistical data with a focus on the raw materials industry and mining companies.
After completing the course, the student will achieve the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge: the student will characterize the principles of statistical data processing and their presentation, explain the meaning of rate and variability characteristics, describe the principles of characteristic estimation and hypothesis testing, characterize the essence of regression and correlation analysis and time series analysis. He will justify the choice of an appropriate statistical method with regard to the nature of the analysed data and the objective of the analysis.
Skills: the student will apply basic statistical methods in the processing of one-dimensional statistical sets of technical and production indicators and wage data of a mining company. He will calculate estimates of selected indicators and perform their testing, apply regression and correlation analysis in cost analysis, evaluate the trend of the time series of mineral commodity prices.
General competencies: the student will independently propose an appropriate method of statistical processing and analysis with regard to the nature of the data and the objective of the analysis. Interprets the results of calculations and assesses the informativeness and limitations of the obtained results, uses statistical methods as a tool for decision support.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
The student will acquire theoretical knowledge about basic procedures and methods of processing statistical files and apply them in the analysis of statistical data in the raw materials industry.
