Summary
Within the subject, the properties of media that influence the spread of pollutants in water and also the methods of purification of different types of waste water are studied.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
- student will know the properties of water and their practical application, the chemical composition of water, water types.
- student will know the processes of primary and secondary water pollution.
- student will knowthe physical, chemical and biological methods of wastewater treatment and their applications.
- student will know the basic principles of water protection and water protection legislative framework in the Czech Republic and the EU.
- student will know qualitative and quantitative expression of water composition.
- student will know evaluate indicators of measuring the quality of surface waters and their classification.
- student will know to assess the impact of wastewater mixing with water in a receiving water quality, application Streeter-Phelps equation.
- student will know a liquid sampling and determination of basic indicators of surface water quality.
Course Contents
1. Meaning of water, circulation of water on Earth. Water as a chemical compound.
2. Physical and physico-chemical properties. Organoleptic and sensory properties of water.
3. Chemical composition of water. Inorganic substances in water. Organic substances in waters. Nature and properties of pollutants.
4. Types of water. Atmospheric, subsurface, surface water.
5. Water sources.
6. Primary and secondary water pollution. Eutrophication. Self-cleaning skills.
7. Waste water. Sewage, industrial waste water. Mixing waste water with the water in the recipient.
8. Water protection principles. Legislation in water management. Permissible degree of contamination.
9. Sewage treatment. Physical methods. Physico-chemical and chemical methods.
10. Biological methods. Aerobic and anaerobic biological methods. Activation. Natural ways of cleaning
