Summary
Basic course:
Introduction to fundamental of joining process -fusion and solid-state welding, brazing, soldering, thermal cutting, joint configuration, material and process selection, welding procedures, equipment specification.

Aims of the Course
Introduction to fundamental of joining process -fusion and solid-state welding, brazing, soldering, thermal cutting.

Intended Learning Outcomes
• Demonstrate by performing all safety procedures in the set-up and use of common welding equipment, cutting equipment, and other tools.
• Understand welding procedure specifications by displaying confidence and ability in passing job entry proficiency tests in (Shielded Metal Arc Welding)
SMAW,(Gas Metal Arc Welding) GMAW,(Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) GTAW processes.
• Interpret drawings, sketches, orthographic prints and weld symbols.
• Utilize mathematical skills by measuring, calculating material usage, and laying out projects to be manufactured.
• Effectively communicate welding and cutting processes and procedures

1. Welding Basics, Creation and Definition of Welded Joint.
2. Welding Procedure Specification (WPS), Welding Procedure Qualification Record.
(WPQR).
3. Types of Welded Joints, Types of Welded Constructions , Welded Joint Design.
4. Thermal Cycles, Heat Affected Zone.
5. Fundamental of Steel Weldability.
6. Joining Processes (Fusion and Solid-State Welding).
7. Oxyfuel Gas Welding (311).
8. Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW, MMAW-111).
9. Gas-Metal Arc Welding (GMAW-135,131), Gas-Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW-141).
10. Electric Resistance Welding (ERW).
11. Submerged Arc Welding (SAW-121).
12. Thermal Cutting: Oxy-Acetylene Cutting, Plasma Arc Cutting, Laser Cutting.
13. Weld Defects-Imperfections in Welds, Non-Destructive Testing.
14. Introduction to Brazing and Soldering.

1. Welding safety, types of welded joints, types of welded constructions. Project – Design of the Weldment
2. Base material selection, filler materiál selection, welding parameters
selection. Project - Welding Procedure Specification (pWPS).
3. Welded joint design. Consultation of projects.
4. Demonstration of basic welding methods (welding laboratory).
5. Calculation of preheating temperature. Heat treatment of welded joints. Consultation of projects.
6. Welding Procedure Specification (pWPS). Consultation of projects.
7. Consultation of projects. Final test.
