Summary
Upon successful completion of the course, the student:
– analyses communication networks using queuing system models,
– applies Erlang models to the dimensioning of telecommunication systems,
– evaluates the effect of traffic load on network parameters and the quality of provided services,
– interprets QoS and QoE parameters and uses them to evaluate communication networks,
– creates a simulation model of a communication network in OMNeT++ or NS-3 and evaluates its results.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
Understand the principles of modeling and dimensioning of telecommunications networks. Learning outcomes are set so that students are able to identify, apply, and solve problems in the field of modeling and to the dimension of telecommunications networks.
Course Contents
1. Introduction. Topological models of communication networks. Blocking problem.
2. Dimensioning and classification of service systems, queue issues.
3. Models used to simulate loss and delay.
4. Simulation and modeling of telecommunication systems. Discrete Event Simulation (DES).
5. Network emulation using GNS3 tool.
6. Dimensioning and modeling of LPWAN properties.
7. OMNeT ++ and NS3 tool for simulation and modeling of communication systems, differences, advantages, basic orientation in the environment, other tools (Riverbed Modeler, Qualnet)
