Leading expert in the field of metal-organic frameworks and their applications, particularly in electrocatalysis and photocatalysis, Professor Tapas Kumar Maji from the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) in Bangalore, India, visited the Materials-Envi Lab (MEL) at the Centre for Energy and Environmental Technologies of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava. Scientists are turning urban road pavements into sources of solar energy

Harnessing energy from asphalt surfaces in cities through a special system of solar collectors and subsequently using it for building heating or water heating - this, in short, describes the main goal of the international project Enhance Europe, led by the University of Padua. In June, researchers from the Nanotechnology Centre, CEET, VSB – TUO achieved success in the form of obtaining a patent for an innovative adsorbent for the sorption of boron compounds from water (Patent 310487). This is the result of research focused on the development of advanced polymer ion-exchange adsorbents with high efficiency and repeatable use.

Research of the Nanotechnology Centre presented at NanoCzech Liberec 2023

The NanoCzech Liberec 2023 conference, the first edition of which took place on 27 September, offered a meeting place for nanotechnology companies and interest organisations, companies demanding high-tech solutions, representatives of public administration, scientific researchers and students. The research of the Nanotechnology Centre, CEET at VŠB-TUO was presented by Radek Zbořil, head of the Materials-Envi Lab, who described the event as a unique celebration of nanotechnology.

The MATUR project has completed its first meeting with representatives from research teams.

The first meeting of the representatives of the MATUR project research teams, which received support from the Jan Amos Komenský Operational Programme in the Top Research Challenge, was hosted by VSB-TUO on Wednesday. Thanks to the support of 464 million crowns, almost 200 scientists will be dedicated to the development of new materials and technologies for sustainable development over the next five years.

Elite Project Enables VSB-TUO Scientists to Develop Materials and Technologies for Sustainable Development

VSB - Technical University of Ostrava has succeeded in the prestigious Johannes Amos Comenius Programme (P JAC). With a grant of CZK 464 million, scientists led by the the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology, in collaboration with other partners, will develop new materials and technologies for sustainable development over the next five years within the MATUR project.

VSB – Technical University of Ostrava makes its first appearance in the CWTS Leiden Ranking

For the first time ever, VSB-TUO has made it into the CWTS Leiden Ranking 2023. The latest edition evaluates the scientific performance of over 1,400 universities from 72 countries, using data from the Web of Science database. VSB-TUO's inclusion, along with the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, has helped increase the number of universities representing the Czech Republic - last year, there were seven domestic universities on the list, this year, there are nine.

Nitrous oxide removal catalysts are protected by a European patent

A new method for the preparation of catalysts for the removal of nitrous oxide (N₂O) from industrial waste gases has been developed by scientists from the Centre for Energy and Environmental Technologies (CEET) at VSB-Technical University of Ostrava. The eventual use of catalysts to reduce N₂O emissions from nitric acid production will have a positive impact on the environment.

CEET develops a unique training course tailored on green mobility requirements

A course specifically designed for the needs of sustainable management and today's fast-growing automotive industry facing the challenges of green mobility is being prepared together with other five partners within Erasmus+ program, KA220-HED Cooperation partnerships in higher education.
