Physical safety and security

OHS

Within the framework of public health protection, health and safety at the workplace is ensured in accordance with legislation, with an emphasis on prevention.

All individuals in the employment relationship undergo regular training, and the specific conditions and safety risks arising in connection with the performance of work or practical training are taken into account at each workplace.

Safety instructions

Based on the events in Prague at the end of 2023, the VSB-TUO organized training sessions focused on Soft Target Protection in 2024, which were conducted by representatives of the Police of the Czech Republic and supported by the project Support of Safety at the VSB-TUO. In addition, the university has developer security guidelines.

First Aid

First Aid First aid training is provided on an ongoing basis at the University, as despite all prevention, accidents can occur both in and outside the University environment.

If you are interested in attending a first aid course, please contact your department's H&S Prevention Officer, who will know the scheduled dates.

AEDs - automated external defibrillators that can save lives in the event of sudden cardiac arrest - are part of the first aid equipment.

Locations of AEDs on the VŠB-TUO campus

AEDs are strategically placed around the campus so that they are easily accessible in case of an emergency:

  • Retor´s Office (building „A“) – Universtiy Hall
  • University Hall – reception
  • Residence Halls – reception
  • FEI – reception
  • EKF – lobby
  • FAST – reception
  • FBI – reception
  • IT4I - reception

Why is AED important?
Sudden cardiac arrest is a critical condition where the heart stops beating and every minute without intervention reduces the chance of survival by 7-10%. An AED is a device designed to be used by lay people - it gives clear voice instructions and can analyse the heart rhythm and decide whether an electrical shock is needed to restore a normal heart rhythm.

How to use the AED?

  1. Call the emergency services (155).
  2. Turn on the AED and follow the voice instructions.
  3. Use the AED in accordance with the instructions and continue cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) until professional help arrives.

Self-defence

Prevention of dangerous situations is a priority at the University, however, there may be situations where it is useful to know the elements of self-defence, which can provide the confidence and skills necessary to respond appropriately in unexpected crisis situations.
Individual training can be obtained from the following police sources, which are available to the general public:
