Success in Young Architect Award 2017

Ing. arch. Tereza Burešová (Roszková), student of doctoral studies at the Faculty of Civil Engineering VŠB-TUO, has received the CEMEX Award within the prestigious Young Architect Award 2017. The prizes were announced for the 9th time at the PVA Exhibition Center in Letňany within the FOR ARCH fair. Of the 39 submitted studies, 11 papers were submitted to the final competition.

The CEMEX Award, announced by the general partner of the competition, was handed to Ing. arch. Tereza Burešová for the paper titled the Municipal House, Těšín - a sustainable dual-town without barriers (supervisor Josef Kiszka), in which she analysed the reasons that led to the division of the town located on the border between Czechia and Poland (Český Těšín and Cieszyn). Based on the analysis of the initial state, she suggested both urban and architectural solutions of the Municipal House.

The purpose of the competition Young Architect Award is to map the work of young architects up to the age of 33, to help young artists to find place on the contemporary architectural scene, to involve them in creating a high quality environment for life, to introduce the architecture to the general public, and to encourage public debate on the topic of architecture.

The theme of this year's competition was the Periphery Inside and on the Edge - dysfunctional towns and villages, abandoned places of transport corridors, places on the interface. The submitted papers were assessed according to the conceptuality and contextuality of the solution, quality of the architectural/ urban solution, contribution to the quality of the environment, sustainability, innovation and the originality of the work.

Within the award ceremony, there was also the first exhibition of the award-winning works. The travelling exhibition will later be displayed in several other towns all over the Czech Republic.
