The aim of the Summer School, now in its third year, is to promote technology and technically oriented fields at VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, with a primary focus on the Faculty of Mining and Geology.
The activities of the Summer School will be divided into two parts: a theoretical–preparatory part, where children will learn the basics of the mining profession — from geological knowledge, through mining and mineral processing, to environmental protection related to mineral extraction.
In the practical part, focused on field trips, we will visit a selected quarry and the area of the former Kukla Mine in Oslavany, now transformed into the themed amusement park PERMONIUM.
For the exploration of selected technological properties of minerals, we have also included a laboratory day, during which children will carry out interesting measurements in the faculty’s laboratories.
Classroom activities and lectures will be interspersed with creative activities, themed games related to technology and mineral extraction — specially designed for the children — as well as sports activities.
Through carefully selected activities, interest-based projects, and thematic competitions, we aim to show children that technology can be not only fascinating but also playful and fun.
