The workshop addressed issues related to education and training in the field of fire cause investigation using virtual reality.
A technical discussion was held with members of the Fire Rescue Service regarding emerging virtual reality scenarios as part of the project “Improving the Effectiveness of Fire Rescue Service Member Training in Fire Prevention Using Digital Tools” which is being developed at the Faculty of Safety Engineering in collaboration with the Institute of Population Protection and the Center for a Safe State. Finally, the Fire Rescue Service members were able to experience firsthand how students conduct exercises in the course “Determining the Causes of Fires" using virtual reality and also try out a demo version of the RiVR Investigate program, which is used to train fire investigators in the United Kingdom.
The use of virtual reality appears to be a suitable tool not only for teaching students but also for the training and adaptation of novice fire investigators, particularly in terms of practicing systematic procedures during fire scene investigations and decision-making processes under simulated emergency conditions.
