Summary
The course is focused on acquiring basic knowledge and practical skills in 3D modeling for industrial design. Students will learn the basics of solid, surface, and freeform modeling in Autodesk Fusion. They will then gain a general introduction to CATIA, which is widely used for advanced engineering applications.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
In this course, students will gain basic practical experience with the CAD/CAM/CAE software Autodesk Fusion and CATIA V5.
Course Contents
1. Introduction to Autodesk Fusion, installation, creation of an Autodesk account. Overview of basic concepts and the history of CAD/CAM/CAE.
2. Fundamentals of working in Autodesk Fusion: settings, workspace, parametric modeling, creation of a simple sketch and solid 3D model.
3. Working with sketch constraints, creation of a solid 3D model using rotation and extrusion, use of the parameter table.
4. Creation and use of planes, working with construction planes.
5. The Extrude command and its variants, creation of a shell.
6. Assembly modeling, different logics in assembly design, practical demonstration of Top-Down assembly creation.
7. Assembly modeling from existing components, working with online databases and sources of 3D models.
8. Surface workspace – surface modeling, basic commands (Extrude, Revolve, Sweep, Trim).
9. Form workspace – application of freeform modeling.
10. Assignment of the semester project.
11. Work on the semester project. Basics of working in CATIA V5.
12. Application of acquired knowledge from Autodesk Fusion in CATIA. Creation of 3D solids using basic commands. Defense of the semester project.
