Summary
The course is focused on explaining the position of purchasing in the system of business functions and analysis of its basic activities. Modern business purchasing includes management, marketing, sales and logistics activities. Key attention is paid within the subject to purchasing categories, purchasing strategies, quality management and supplier selection and evaluation activities. Students will learn about modern purchasing management systems, requirements placed on the buyer and modern trends of purchasing such as electronic auctions.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
1. Formulate the purchasing policy and the course of the purchasing process.
2. Explain the management and regulation of the purchasing process.
3. Evaluate the purchasing strategy and its objectives.
4. Explain the criteria, approaches and methods of supplier selection.
5. To assess the possibilities of improving the organization of purchasing in organizations.
Course Contents
1. Introduction to purchasing management. Definition of the term purchase. The position of purchasing in the organization.
2. The importance of purchasing in organizations. Purchase goals. The principle of sustainability in purchasing.
3. Purchase strategy. A prerequisite for a successful purchase. Analysis of OSA.
4. Category Management. Kraljic matrix. Strategic purchase.
5. Supplier quality management.
6. Supplier selection and decision-making process. Multi-criteria supplier selection. Supplier rating.
7. Lean, agile and leagile supply chain.
8. Transaction purchase. E-auction. A practical demonstration in the e-auction software.
9. Abilities and Skills of Buyers. Trends in purchasing activity.
10. Behavioral supply chain. Cognitive biases.
11. Negotiation in purchasing. Conflict resolution and the role of team negotiation.
12. VUCA and Procurement 4.0.
13. Emotional intelligence and Mindfulness in purchasing.
