Summary
The content of the subject belongs to the fundamental knowledge of study on FAST VŠB-TU Ostrava. Students will get acquainted with the basic properties of building materials, their composition, structure, their assessment in terms of compliance with harmonized standards and of course their use in building practice. At the same time, they will familiarize themselves with the methods of testing the physico-mechanical properties of these substances and with the deformation properties at the loads. In the framework of laboratory work they will gain practical experience, including seminar work. The greatest attention is paid to the most common building materials of the present - concrete and its basic components.
Students will get a basic overview of the building materials they need to the further study of other technical subjects at the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
Students acquaintances with structure, features and production of building materials and their possible aplication in civil engineering. Meeting (Czech and European) standards, concerning building materials is an integral part of building materials education. Goal of the subject is to create knowledge and premises for competent and qualified designing and convenient application of building materials in construction building.
