Summary
The internal combustion engine is still the most common source of power for the ground vehicle. Nowadays occurs due to the implementation of rules for emission standards to reduce displacement volume of engine while keeping the operational parameters. This process is called downsizing. In course will be illustrated terminology and functional principle of different types of internal combustion engines. Students in the course internal combustion engines of vehicles acquainted with modern structural design of internal combustion engines and accessories. They will learn about methods of formation of flammable mixtures and charge exchange process. Student will learn about the parts of the crank mechanism and valve timing devices.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
Students will understand the basic issues and terminology of combustion engine for vehicles. They can describe components of the internal combustion engine. Student will be able to describe the principle of operation of the internal combustion engine. Will be able to define the ideal thermodynamic cycles and will be able to compare the different cycles among themselves. They will understand the formation of mixture and they will understand to gas exchange process. And they will be able to describe accessory of combustion engines.
