Summary
Subject should complete the basic knowledge of the student in the field of
European integration. The main focus will be laid as on the different forms of
integration processes in Europe including its historical background as on the
common and coordinated policies of the European Union. The actual topics of
the EU activities will be emphasized too.
Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
1.To describe integration process in Europe and its influence on goals of economic policy in the EC/EU,
2.To identify the main economic-political goals and explain related tools in different integration stages,
3.To apply knowledge for solution of topical economic-poltical issues of the EC/EU,
4.To analyse economic-political situation in the EC/EU member countries and discuss ways and means for its solutions.
Course Contents
1. General Theoretical Foundations of European Integration - Definitions, Motives, Forms. Bela Balassa and his contribution.
2. The development and stages of European economic integration since World War II, its current state and perspectives.
3. Economic governance - definitions, principles, applications in the European Union.
4. Common economic policy approaches to tackling the global financial and economic crisis, transforming governance in Europe.
5. Anti-crisis measures and their impact in selected European economies. European semester. Warning mechanism against macroeconomic imbalances. In-depth reviews.
6. Macroeconomics of monetary integration, crisis of the European Monetary Union and its solution. Bank Union, Union of Securities.
7. Fiscal Policy in Economic and Monetary Union - Sharing Fiscal Responsibility. Fiscal Union.
8. Microeconomics of European Integration - Internal Policies of the European Union - Structure, Objectives, Tools, Need for Reforms.
9. The internal market of the European Economic Area, the anti-competitive economy - competition policy and consumer protection policy.
10. Microeconomic policies of the European Union - commercial, agricultural, fisheries.
11. Microeconomic policies of the European Union - transport, energy, environmental protection.
12. Economic, social and territorial cohesion in the European Union. EU Cohesion Policy.
13. Regional aspects of structural policy in the European Union - use of structural and investment funds.
14. Challenges and challenges of the expanding European Union in the context of deepening globalization. European Neighborhood Policy.
