Students from EU countries
- Entitled to necessary and urgent healthcare.
- Must hold a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
- We recommend registering your EHIC with a Czech health insurance provider after arrival, preferably VZP, the largest health insurer in the Czech Republic.
- Registration helps simplify the billing of medical expenses and provides you with a Czech health insurance number for easier access to healthcare services.
- Registration can be completed in person after arrival. For more information, please contact the ICP Office.
Students from NON-EU countries
- Non-EU students who intend to stay in the Czech Republic for more than 90 days must have health insurance covering comprehensive healthcare, unless they are covered by public health insurance or exempt under an international agreement or a recognised mobility programme.
- The minimum coverage limit per insured event must be EUR 400,000.
- You may choose any insurance provider authorised to offer this type of insurance in the Czech Republic. We recommend Slavia Insurance. If you arrange your insurance through their Ostrava branch, you may receive a discount or additional benefits. Slavia cooperates with a hospital in the city centre and can assist you during your visit. Other providers include AXA, UNIQA and Maxima.
- Contact Slavia Insurance in Ostrava.
- For more information, please visit the official Ministry of the Interior website.
- Check whether your home country has a bilateral healthcare agreement with the Czech Republic.
