As part of the admission procedure, the university assesses the fulfillment of the requirement of having completed secondary Education with a school-leaving examination according to § 48, paragraph 4 of the Higher Education Act, applicable to applicants who obtained foreign secondary Education by completing a study program at a foreign secondary school, an international secondary school, a European school operating under the Convention on the Statute of European Schools, or at a school where the Ministry has authorized fulfillment of compulsory school attendance according to the Education Act.

The deadline for submitting the required documents is published on the website of the respective faculty. Please read the admission steps carefully. The deadline can not be extended.
The recognition of previous foreign education for the purposes of the admission process is valid within the admission process at the VSB – Technical University of Ostrava in one academic year only.
The University does not issue any certificate or electronic certificate of the assessment of previous foreign education.
An administrative fee for the assessment of previous foreign education is charged. The administrative fee is 800 CZK. The applicant is required to pay the fee within specified dealine and by using the specific number indicated in the bank details information, which is sent to the applicant´s e-mail address. The recognition of the previous foreign education is not provided before the payment is made. In case the fee is not paid according the sent information, the university will not carry out the recognition of previous foreign education for the purposes of the admission process. Please check bank details before making payment carefully, incorrect payment still makes the fee considered unpaid!
Documents submitted to the University for the admission process will not be returned! Applicant are advised to make a sufficient number of certified copies of the submitted documents (including translations) for further use.
Previous foreign secondary education can be documented by:
The applicant shall provide a certified copy of a document of the general recognition of equivalence or validity of foreign secondary education certificate in the Czech Republic, obtained in accordance with Act No. 561/2004 Coll., on pre-school, primary, secondary, higher vocational, and other education (the Education Act), as amended, or according to previous legal regulations. The document is issued by regional authorities, the Magistrate of the Capital City of Prague, or by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. More information can be found e.g. here.
The administrative fee for the recognition of prior foreign education is not charged in this case.
The certified copy of the European Baccalaureate is submitted (see Forms of verification and official translation).

The International Baccalaureate issued by an International Baccalaureate World school, authorized by the Swiss International Baccalaureate Foundation, or affilliated with an International Baccalaureate World School association recognized by the Swiss International Baccalaureate Foundation.
The applicant shall provide a certified copy of the International Baccalaureate (see Forms of verification and official translation).
If necessary, additional documents regarding the achieved education can be requested, in particular documents about the content of the foregn secondary education (an overview of academic results achieved during the completed studies).
The administrative fee for the recognition of prior foreign education is not charged in this case.
A foreign secondary education with a matriculation exam, if it is automatically equivalent in the Czech Republic according to its international obligations without further official procedure. These are documents proving the acquisition of the equivalent of the Czech secondary school leaving examination in Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and Slovenia.
The applicant shall provide a certified copy (see Forms of verification and official translation) of a foreign diploma or a similar document of foreign secondary education obtained by completing a study program at a foreign secondary school operating under the legal regulations of a foreign country.
If necessary, the faculty may request providing additional documents regarding the achieved education, especially documents on the content and scope of the foreign secondary education (a transcript of academic results obtained during the completed studies, a list of subjects with the number of hours per year).

The above procedure can be used if the university has no doubts about the foreign education obtained, which the applicant has documented with a foreign certificate according to point d). In case of doubts, the university will require the applicant to prove their education with a certificate of general nostrification according to point a).

As part of the admissions process, the university assesses whether the requirement of properly completing a bachelor's or master's degree program in accordance with Section 48, Paragraph 5 of the Higher Education Act has been met, specifically for applicants who have obtained foreign higher education by completing a program at a foreign university.

The applicant shall provide a certified copy of the certificate of general recognition of foreign higher education in the Czech Republic, obtained in accordance with § 89 and § 90 of the Higher Education Act or under previous legal regulations.
The certificate is issued by universities in the Czech Republic, the Ministry of the Interior, or the Ministry of Defence.

A foreign document of higher education that is, according to the Czech Republic's international obligations, equivalent without further official procedures. This applies to documents certifying the completion of a study program in Slovakia, with the exception of diplomas issued by foreign branches of Slovak universities after March 28, 2015, where the procedure under letter c) applies. In the case of a higher education document issued by a Slovak university after March 28, 2015, the applicant also provides a confirmation issued by the foreign university about the country where the completed study program was carried out.
This also applies to documents certifying the completion of a study program in Poland and Hungary.
The procedure also applies to documents certifying the completion of a master's study program in Slovenia. Documents proving the completion of a bachelor's degree program in Slovenia are assessed according to letter c).

Certificates of previous education submitted by the applicant for admission must be properly verified in accordance with applicable international treaties:
Original certificates of education are valid in the territories of the contracting states without further verification. Copies of these documents must be officially certified by a Czech or foreign notary, the Czech embassy, a municipal office in the Czech Republic, or through the Czech Point service at branches of the Czech Post.
Countries that have concluded a legal assistance agreement with the Czech Republic:

For these countries, a unique form of document verification is established, called an Apostille, which is issued by the competent authority of the country in which the diploma was issued (the so-called apostille office). Superlegalization is the verification of the authenticity of signatures and seals by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country where the secondary or higher education institution that issued the document is located, or by another authorized foreign authority, and subsequently by the relevant diplomatic mission of the Czech Republic.
A higher verification by the Czech embassy (superlegalization) is required for all other countries not listed above.
Countries to whose accession to the Hague Convention the Czech Republic has raised an objection and whose documents still need to be verified by superlegalization:
Bangladesh, Burundi, Pakistan.
The requirements for submitting properly certified documents will also be met if the applicant submits officially certified copies of documents that are certified in one of the above-mentioned ways applicable to the submitted materials (e.g. notarized copies of superlegalized documents).
Official translation of documents that are not issued in Czech, Slovak, or English
Submitted documents proving achieved education, especially a diploma, diploma supplement, certificate, transcript, school license and accreditation certificate, issued in a language other than Czech, Slovak or English, need to be accompanied by an official translation into Czech or English.
An officially certified translation must be made by a court interpreter or translator, i.e. the translation must be performed by a person authorized by law. The translation must include the original or a certified copy of the document being translated.
For all the above-mentioned officially certified copies of documents, it applies that they must be submitted in paper form. The individual sheets of the submitted documents must be permanently bound in such a way that they cannot be confused or exchanged. Acceptable methods include, for example, stitching and sealing by covering with the seal of the certifying office.
Documents cannot be accepted if they are submitted separately, not permanently bound with their official certification, or not permanently bound with an official translation into Czech or English.
Applicants are requested to pay particular attention to the form and manner of submitting proof of education. Without proper verification of previous education, applicants cannot be admitted to study at the university. Documents submitted in a manner other than that described above will not be accepted in the admission process.
Documents proving completed education issued by a foreign secondary or higher education institution located in a country whose sovereignty and independence have not been recognized by the Czech Republic cannot be accepted.
An applicant for study who holds a document of previous education issued by a foreign secondary or higher education institution based in Ukraine shall submit proof of previous education according to the instructions above.
Based on the Rector's Directive No. TUO_PRI_25_005 - Measures by the Rector Concerning Fees Related to Study in Connection with Act No. 67/2022 Coll., on Measures in the Field of Education in Relation to the Armed Conflict in the Territory of Ukraine, applicants for study at VŠB-TUO who are foreigners mentioned in this Act No. 67/2022 Coll. or citizens of Ukraine are exempt from the fee for the actions related to assessing the fulfillment of admission requirements for study under § 48 paragraph 7 of the Higher Education Act, amounting to CZK 800. This exemption is valid for the duration of Act No. 67/2022 Coll.
Applicants need to provide proof of entitlement to the fee exemption by presenting a passport or a special residence visa.
